RESERVOIR released its latest advances, demonstrating automatic deployment of complex multi-tier services on a federated Cloud infrastructure. The project’s results show how virtualisation and business service management techniques can be used to transparently provision and manage resources and services on an on-demand basis at competitive costs with guaranteed quality of service.
RESERVOIR is a European Union FP7 funded project and a NESSI strategic project. Its main objective is to enable massive scale deployment and management of complex IT services across different administrative domains, IT platforms and geographies.
The demo consists of four scenarios, the first of which shows automated deployment, auto-configuration and auto-scale of multi-tier services from SAP, SUN and Thales. The second scenario demonstrates how federation can be used in conjunction with elasticity rules to extend Cloud size by using remote resources. It highlights cross-site deployment of virtual machines, cross-site virtual private networks and cross-site monitoring. The third scenario demonstrates live migration capabilities across subnets without shared storage, and describes how cross-site accounting and billing is performed. The fourth scenario highlights how certificates and role based access control can be used to give secure access to the Cloud.
Latest findings and achievements were presented at the RESERVOIR booth in the NESSI Projects Summit on April 12-13, 2010 and at the Future Internet Assembly (FIA) Conference on April 15-16, 2010 in Valencia, Spain. RESERVOIR representatives were also on-hand to give more information and answer specific questions from event participants.
Through further demonstration of its research results, RESERVOIR aims to stress the importance of stimulating the creativity and excellence of European research and the underlying benefits to Europe’s industries and citizens. It is envisioned that the RESERVOIR innovation is to serve the European community in the development of next generation data centres demonstrating quantified and significant improvements in service delivery productivity, reducing software complexity and costs, expediting time-to-market, improving reliability and enhancing accessibility of consumers to government and business services.
RESERVOIR is also providing training, giving insight into the RESERVOIR Framework. Our experts offer consulting on the architecture, the individual RESERVOIR components, and how to integrate these to build an open source Cloud infrastructure. Training also aims to teach users how to create service definitions and submit them to a RESERVOIR infrastructure for deployment.
